Life Behind the Bar: Community, Creativity, and Conversations at Reggie Bar

As hosts of Humans of the World on Britalians TV, we’ve had the privilege of traveling the globe, uncovering extraordinary stories in the most unassuming places. In the Town of Tuxedo, the Gem of New York, we found ourselves at a charming local spot—Reggie Bar—sitting down with the brilliant minds and big hearts behind it: Brad Ewing and Amy, two pillars of their community.

“Guys, for those who don’t know you, what are your names and what do you do?”

With warmth and a touch of humour, they introduced themselves. Brad, a collaborative printmaker by day and a bar co-owner by passion, works out of a Manhattan studio where he helps artists bring their visions to life. Amy, a medical assistant with a knack for making people feel safe and cared for, effortlessly balances her career in healthcare with her role in the Reggie Bar family.

And here we all were, in the heart of their creation—a place that is as much a sanctuary for locals as it is a venue for stories and community spirit.

“Why a bar? Why in the Town of Tuxedo, New York?”

Brad and Amy shared how Reggie Bar was born out of necessity and a deep love for their town. “About 10 years ago, the last bar in Tuxedo shut its doors, leaving people with nowhere local to gather. During the pandemic, we realized the community needed a place to come together, to reconnect,” they told us.

Two and a half years later, Reggie Bar is not just a bar—it’s the beating heart of Tuxedo, the Gem of New York.

“What’s your favourite part of running a bar?”

It’s not just about serving drinks; it’s about serving the community. Amy told us how the bar has become a hub where people from all walks of life come together. “We’ve seen people sit at the same table, share stories, and leave as friends.”

Brad’s artistic flair is apparent even in the details of the bar. With artwork adorning the walls and even the restroom becoming a mini gallery, Reggie Bar is as much a space for creativity as it is for conversation.

“What’s the secret to your partnership?”

Laughter and mutual respect. “We’re really good friends,” they agreed, describing how their unique skills—Amy’s organizational prowess and Brad’s creative instincts—complement one another. Along with Amy’s husband, the trio has created a dynamic that works.

“None of this would be possible without the three of us,” Brad added. “We brainstorm together, lean on each other, and somehow, everything falls into place.”

Challenges and Dreams

Running a bar isn’t all smooth sailing. From navigating permits to managing finances, the reality of business ownership can be daunting. But the smiles of their patrons and the gratitude of their community make it worthwhile.

When asked about their dreams, Brad and Amy shared their hopes to expand the bar’s offerings, perhaps with more events or a larger space, while staying rooted in their mission of community connection.

An Invitation to All

Reggie Bar isn’t just a place for locals—it’s an open invitation. Artists can showcase their work, bands can bring the house down, and anyone looking for good company will find it here.

So, if you’re ever in Tuxedo, stop by. As Brad and Amy say, “We’re always here, waiting to welcome you with open arms and maybe a little art over the toilet.”

Because at Reggie Bar, every drink, every laugh, and every conversation tells a story.

Until next time,

with Love
Marco & Erica
