That’s how it looks: procrastination together with productivity.

Where the Internet is full of suggestions on how to stop delaying things and be back on track, this article is going to give you another perspective: delaying something that you struggle to accomplish can be more productive than staying focused on that. How is that possible?

Has it ever happened to you to struggle to do something, such as solving an exercise or writing something down and to get stuck on that? Have you ever thought that it might have been better to move on something else rather than continue overthinking? While focusing on something difficult can discourage you and make you feel stressed, moving on something else can clear your mind. Although we are constantly encouraged to be as productive as possible, many sources point out that mental wandering can trigger creativity.

A research conducted by two psychologists from the University of California compared the ability of a number of students to bring to their mind everyday objects. What stood out is that researchers observed a performance improvement of 41% among those students having the opportunity to clear their minds during the break (to know more, read here).

Therefore, next time you will be stuck on something, put that task aside and focus on something different, without being overwhelmed by the deadline. Brilliant ideas come when you least expect them!
